# Paxa Labs and WellSaid for English, Thai, and Mandarin speech

A speech API for English, Thai, and Mandarin next to the WellSaid API, across languages, Thai and Mandarin voices, text per request, delivery, formats, word timing, and API access.

WellSaid Labs sells Studio plans by download minutes, with English voices on individual and Business plans and other languages on Enterprise. Its API starts with a trial key for 14 days and 50 calls, and paid API plans are built with its team. Its Global Voices page has no Thai section. Paxa TTS Flash v2 speaks English, Thai, and Mandarin, and all 50 of its voices speak all three. Compare both on your own script.

## What differs

| Dimension | Paxa Labs | [WellSaid](https://wellsaid.io/pricing) |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Language coverage | English, Thai, and Mandarin, in all 50 voices on one model. | English voices on individual and Business plans, and all languages on Enterprise, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and European languages among them. |
| Thai voices | All 50 voices speak Thai, each with a published id and a fixed sample line. Paxa TTS Flash, model paxa-tts-flash-v1, carries 4 more in 3 regional registers. | None listed. Their Global Voices page groups voices by language and has no Thai section. |
| Mandarin speech | All 50 voices speak Mandarin from Simplified Chinese text, in the same voice they use for English and Thai. | Six Mandarin (Simplified) voices, each labeled Partner, meaning a third-party partner provides it. |
| Text per request | Up to 20,000 characters on Paxa TTS Flash v2. | Up to 1000 characters, with a default limit of 3 requests per second. |
| Pronunciation and delivery | On Paxa TTS Flash v2, tags written into the text, such as [whispering] or [laughs], direct the delivery. The language field sets how codes, digits, and symbols are read. | On their caruso model, AI Director tags set pitch, tempo, and loudness, for English voices only. Respellings written into the text and saved replacement libraries shape how a word is said. |
| Output formats | MP3 by default, Ogg Opus, 16-bit PCM as WAV or raw at 8 to 48 kHz, or mu-law and A-law at 8 kHz, on Paxa TTS Flash v2. | MP3, WAV, or raw 16-bit PCM, at 8 to 96 kHz. Their reference notes that not every rate is offered in every format. |
| Word timing | Word, sentence, or utterance spans, returned with the audio on the same request. | A separate endpoint returns a zip file of the audio with word timing as JSON, SRT, and VTT. |

- Paxa TTS Flash v2, per 1M characters: $10
- WellSaid: No published rate

WellSaid publishes no API rate. Its plans price Studio download minutes, and API plans are built with its team. Every rate is per one million characters of English text, counted in UTF-16 code units as ours is, with per-minute, per-token, per-byte, and per-Han-character rates converted to that unit.

## When WellSaid is the better choice

If your team produces voiceover in a studio editor, WellSaid's plans include caption files, team workspaces, and Adobe Express and Premiere Pro integrations. Its Enterprise plan adds other languages, translation of English clips, and SSO. Their API FAQ says their team helps deploy a custom voice to the API. Choose us when your product speaks Thai or Mandarin and needs a published API rate.

## Questions

### Does WellSaid have Thai voices?

Their Global Voices page lists none. It groups voices by language from Arabic to Turkish, and their pricing page keeps languages other than English for Enterprise.

### How do we get WellSaid API access?

Their account guide issues a trial key that lasts 14 days and covers 50 API calls. A paid API plan is built with their team, and their pricing page lists no API rate.

### Do you offer voice cloning?

No. Catalog voices are published with stable ids, and a voice of your own is one you design from a written description in the console. WellSaid deploys a custom voice to its API with its team's help.

### Do you publish quality or latency comparisons?

No. We publish no quality, accuracy, or latency figures of our own, for our model or anyone else's. Generate the same script on both and listen.
