# How to make an AI voice, from script to download

Pick a voice, write the script, add a direction in square brackets, then generate and download, and see how Google AI Studio, Canva, and CapCut do it.

An AI voice reads the script you write, in a voice you choose, and gives you an audio file. It needs no microphone or recording session. People use one for a video, a lesson, a shop announcement, or a message to family.

In Paxa, you make it in [the Speech tool](https://paxalabs.com/app/speech) of the console. Every Paxa TTS Flash v2 voice speaks English, Thai, and Mandarin, and a new account starts with 100 free credits.

## Make an AI voice, step by step

1. Pick a voice: Sign in and open [the Speech tool](https://paxalabs.com/app/speech). It opens on Paxa TTS Flash v2, the model whose voices read directions. Open the voice picker and play the samples, which cost nothing. If none fits, design one first.
2. Write the text: Type or paste the script, up to 5,000 characters in one run. Write numbers and names the way they should be said. The cost in credits shows under the text before you generate.
3. Add a direction: Write how the words should sound in square brackets, such as `[warm, unhurried]` or `[whispering]`. A direction holds until the next one, and the brackets are not spoken.
4. Generate and listen: Under Format, choose MP3 for most uses or WAV for a video edit. Then select Generate speech and play the clip.
5. Fix and download: If a name or number comes back wrong, respell it in the text and generate again. When the take sounds right, select the Download icon on the player.

## Write a direction

On Paxa TTS Flash v2, a direction is any words in square brackets, in English, Thai, or Chinese. It can be one word, such as `[sad]`, or a description of the whole read, such as `[product advertisement, punchy and upbeat]`.

Text before the first direction keeps the voice's own delivery. A direction holds from where it stands until the next one, and `[neutral]` returns to the voice's own delivery.

two directions in one script:

```
[warm, unhurried] Welcome back to the kitchen.
[excited] Today we make green curry paste from scratch.
```

[The narrator voice page](https://paxalabs.com/narrator-voice) plays directions written into real narration, and [the voices page](https://paxalabs.com/voices) plays every voice.

## Design a voice when none fits

When no catalog voice suits the script, open [Voice design](https://paxalabs.com/app/voice-design) in the console. Write who is speaking and how they sound, such as "a woman in her fifties who reads ghost stories late at night, low and a little husky". A new voice comes back with a name and a line in character.

Type what to change, such as warmer or a little older, and the next version plays. Save the version you want, and it appears under Your voices in the Speech tool's voice picker, ready for the steps above. Each design or change costs 5 credits, and speech in a saved voice runs at 1.25 times the rate of a catalog voice.

[The voice design page](https://paxalabs.com/voice-design) plays descriptions beside the voices they made.

## Other places to make an AI voice

Google AI Studio, Canva, and CapCut also come up when people look for a way to make an AI voice. Every fact about them below links the vendor's own page, as we read it in October 2026.

### Google AI Studio and Gemini TTS

[Google's speech generation guide](https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/speech-generation) says the Gemini API turns text into audio with one speaker or two. It suggests testing the Gemini TTS models in Google AI Studio before you start building. The guide lists 30 prebuilt voices. Its table of supported languages checks Thai for Gemini 3.8 Flash TTS and leaves it blank for Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite TTS. The guide sets delivery, such as emotion, pacing, and volume, in a `style` field kept apart from the words to be spoken.

### Canva

[Canva's help center](https://www.canva.com/help/canva-ai-voice/) places AI Voice inside a design. In the side panel, select Elements, scroll to Audio, and select Generate AI Voice, or open the Apps tab and select AI Voice. Type the script, choose a language and a voice style under Select Voice, and select Generate AI voice. The voice track lands on the design's audio timeline.

### CapCut

[CapCut's help center](https://www.capcut.com/help/text-to-speech-feature) turns a text layer in a video project into speech. In the mobile app, tap Text and add your words, then tap the text layer on the timeline. Select Text-to-Speech from the bottom menu, choose a voice style, and tap Generate. The same page gives the steps for the desktop app and the web editor.

## What the free credits allow

A new account gets 100 free credits, granted once. They voice about 11 minutes of English narration in any Paxa TTS Flash v2 voice.

Audio made on the free credits alone is for personal use and evaluation. Buy any plan or credit pack, and all of the account's audio is yours to use commercially, including audio made before the purchase. [The Terms](https://paxalabs.com/terms#content-and-output) state the rule, and [the pricing page](https://paxalabs.com/pricing) lists the plans and packs.

Each other tool sets its own license for the audio it makes. Read it before you publish.

## Common questions

### Can I make an AI voice for free?

Yes, for personal use and evaluation, with a new account's 100 free credits. [The free text to speech page](https://paxalabs.com/tts) also reads a line in 9 voices with no account.

### How much text does one run read?

Up to 5,000 characters. Split a longer script at a paragraph, and join the clips in an audio editor.

### Can I make an AI voice of my own voice?

Paxa Labs clones no voice from a recording. Pick a catalog voice in the voice picker, or [design a new voice](https://paxalabs.com/voice-design) from a written description and save it to your account.

### Do directions cost extra?

Directions are text. Every character in the brackets counts toward the cost, at the same rate as the words.
