English listening practice, generated from the worksheet
A teacher writes the passage and the questions. The recording is the part that waits. 6 English voices read any text at any pace, and a new worksheet is a new file the same afternoon.
English listening material in Thailand is built from what already exists: a textbook CD, a clip found online, a colleague with a free period. The passage the class needs this week is rarely among them, and recording it is a job nobody has time for.
Speech from text changes the order. Write the passage for the lesson, generate the audio, and hand out both. The same passage can be read slowly for the first listen and at full pace for the second, by the same voice, from the same text.
One line, three paces#
One voice reads one dictation line at three rates. The words and the voice stay fixed, and the rate is the only thing that changes.
The line
The train to the airport leaves from platform four at a quarter past nine.
- Slow, for the first listenrate 0.8×0:06
- The voice's own pacerate 1×0:05
- Brisk, for the last listenrate 1.25×0:04

0.5-1.5×
Rate range
From 0.5 to 1.5 times the voice's own speed, in one request field.
Every request takes a rate on the voice's own speed. It changes how the audio sounds and never the character count. A slow read costs what the fast one did.
What a class can generate#
Four kinds of listening material, all made from text the teacher already has.
Dictation
A sentence read at a slow rate, then again at pace. Numbers, times, and spellings are read as written, which is what a dictation tests.
Comprehension passages
A passage and its questions, read by one voice for the passage and another for the questions. A new passage each week costs the time it takes to write it.
Pronunciation models
A word list or minimal pairs, read clearly by a voice cast for teaching. Learners hear the target form as many times as they play it.
Exam-style listening
Announcements, short dialogues, and monologues in the shape a listening test uses. Two voices make a dialogue, and the script is the answer key.
6 English voices#
Each was cast for a different kind of reading. The one used above is the tutorials voice.
Questions#
Are the voices native English speakers?
The 6 were cast for English-first work, and each has a page with a full sample. Play them on your own passage before choosing. The accent question is one for your ear.
How slow can it read?
Down to 0.5 times the voice's own speed, and up to 1.5. The charge is the same at every rate.
Can students use it themselves?
Yes, with an account. The console reads any text a learner pastes, and the free grant covers about 11 minutes of speech.
Can I use the audio in a course I sell?
Output made on free credits is for personal use and evaluation. Once you buy a plan or credits, generated output becomes yours for any use, including a paid course, and that covers output generated before the purchase.
Does it read Thai instructions inside an English worksheet?
A Thai line inside an English request is read by an English voice with an English accent. Put the Thai instructions in a separate request on a Thai voice, or keep the audio English throughout.
Free credits, and no card
Sign in and the free grant covers this week's passage, the dictation, and both paces of each.
